TransferA registration may only be transferred from one vehicle to another IF you no longer own the vehicle shown on the original registration. The registration period remains the same. In other words, if you sold a car in January which is registered through June, you may transfer the registration to the new car. But you will be required to reregister the new car in June. This transfer allows you to use the excise tax paid on the original registration against the excise tax owed on the new vehicle. If your new vehicle was purchased from a dealer, you must bring: - the yellow registration from the "old" car. You will need to sign this and indicate to whom you sold or transferred the old vehicle.
- proof of insurance
- current mileage information
- "Green" dealer's certificate - which shows you have paid your sales tax
- "Blue" title application - which shows you have applied for a title
- If your vehicle is "brand new", you must also provide us with the Maroney label or window sticker. This will list all the options on your vehicle as well as the manufacturer's suggested retail price.
If your new vehicle was purchased from an individual, you must bring:
- the yellow registration from the "old" car. You will need to sign this and indicate to whom you sold or transferred the old vehicle.
- proof of insurance
- current mileage information
- the title from the "new" car - with the back section completed and signed by the seller or title application completed by your financial institution. Titles are required for any vehicles less than 16 years old.
- a bill of sale showing the vehicle information as well as the amount which you paid.
